facter (4.2.13-1) unstable; urgency=medium Beginning at version 4.x, Facter is once again implemented in Ruby and distributed as a Ruby gem. The C++ implementation is abandoned, and as such the development files and shared library Debian packages are removed. Although this new release should be 100% API compatible with Facter 3.x, there are some small changes. One such change is that the "facter -p" command has been replaced with "puppet facts show". Please see the release announcement at https://puppet.com/blog/facter-4-back-to-the-roots/ and for further details, the release notes at https://puppet.com/docs/puppet/7/release_notes_facter.html -- Jérôme Charaoui Thu, 13 Oct 2022 09:01:09 -0400 facter (3.10.0-3) unstable; urgency=medium This is a major upgrade from the 2.x series with many breaking changes. Facter has been rewritten in C++ and the old Ruby implementation has been removed. Facter still provides a Ruby API for custom facts, however much of the old Ruby API is no longer available. As a result, custom facts may have to be modified to work with the current Ruby API. Furthermore some rarely-used facts have been removed, potentially breaking Puppet manifests that use them. Please check the release notes at https://docs.puppet.com/facter/3.0/release_notes.html and all subsequent release notes for a detailed account of breaking changes. -- Apollon Oikonomopoulos Mon, 05 Mar 2018 23:13:37 +0200 facter (1.5.8-1) experimental; urgency=low When upgrading facter from 1.5.1 (the version in "lenny") or any previous version, a running puppet instance will stop working due to API changes in facter. If you have a running puppetd instance, it must be restarted. -- Stig Sandbeck Mathisen Wed, 01 Dec 2010 16:05:08 +0100
