Gramps for Debian ----------------- Version 5.0 of gramps adds the option of using a new database backend called DB_API, as an alternative to the default BSDDB (Berkeley). Two DB-API SQL engines have been developed, sqlite3 and postgresql. Compared to BSDDB, the alternative backends have beend designed allow some flexibility with respect to using the database with multiple users (although not yet at the same time), or in multiple locations (different computers). Postgresql is only available as a 3rd party addon at the moment. In the Preferences menu, sqlite3 can be selected as the default database for new Family Tree databases, and then the option will be available in the Family Tree Manager to convert an existing BSDDB database to sqlite3. Sqlite3 will probably become the default database type in the future, but there is no need to rush to covert your database unless you want to take advantage of what sqlite has to offer. For more details, please read the Gramps wiki: https://gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=DB-API_Database_Backend Please note, this particular version is the first release candidate for testing. Please do not use it on your only copy of important genealogical data. It is possible that last minute bugs are found. -- Ross Gammon Mon, 4 Jul 2018 19:26:00 +0200
