o Image files used by the generated HTML are now located in /usr/share/mrtg. Please symlink these files to your hosting location. -- Adam Majer May 7, 2008 This package was originally developed by Dermot Bradley General Notes: o The Debian package currently doesn't make use of MRTG's daemon mode but rather runs it via cron. MRTG is run as root from /etc/cron.d/ every 5 minutes and the directory /var/www/mrtg is used to store any generated HTML files. If you are using Apache as your WWW server then you should use the MetaDir/MetaSuffix directives to ensure that users see the most recent graphs. o To get started, you will need to run cfgmaker to create /etc/mrtg.cfg. o As of version 2.9.2 the contributed scripts and configuration files that used to live in doc/mrtg/examples are now in the mrtg-contrib package. In addition, the output of the cron job is now written to /var/log/mrtg/mrtg.log (it's rotated by logrotate) o In the near future, MRTG will run as its own user (there are a few small hiccups, hence the functionality not being in this package release). o For those of you who are having problems using MRTG with UCD SNMP/NET SNMP, it's probably access control related. If snmpwalk doesn't work successfully, chances are MRTG won't either :) See the 'Access Control' section of the snmpd.conf file for more information (make sure your community names are properly mapped to security names, etc). -- Shiju p.
