A history of OpenCAMLib ===================================================================== OpenCAMLib & its closely related OpenVoronoi have been of interest to FreeCAD developers for use in computer-assisted manufacturing since its introduction in 2012. [1][2][3] However, due to license incompatibility (FreeCAD is LGPL-2+, while OpenCAMLib & OpenVoronoi were GPL3), these libraries could not be distributed along with FreeCAD, which caused issues for users and adoption into 2017. [4][5] In July 2018, another FreeCAD user posted about using the libraries which spurred the author to suggest relicensing them. [6] By the beginning of August, the relicensing was complete. [7] OpenCAMLib & OpenVoronoi provide unique and powerful functionality for FreeCAD, and would surely find other uses if it were distributed with Debian, but its development had been languishing somewhat due to the licensing incompatibility issue. It is for this reason that the relicensing and a more community-focused maintenance approach has been undertaken.
