CLOUDHV.fd This is the upstream CloudHv platform build, intended for the Cloud Hypervisor VMM. Unlike the other firmware images in this source package it is not a flash device image but a PVH ELF binary, loaded through Cloud Hypervisor's --kernel option: cloud-hypervisor --kernel /usr/share/cloudhv-efi-x86-64/CLOUDHV.fd --disk path=... It has no persistent varstore - variables live in EmuVariableFvbRuntimeDxe and are mirrored to an "NvVars" file on the first writable filesystem the firmware finds - and therefore no Secure Boot support. There is no /usr/share/qemu/firmware/ descriptor for it either, as the QEMU firmware metadata specification has no way to describe a PVH --kernel payload. The image gets a directory of its own, named after the package, as the qemu-efi-* firmware packages do. That leaves room for a build targeting another guest architecture without a path collision, since upstream names its output after the platform rather than the architecture. This package is deliberately not pulled in by the ovmf metapackage: it targets a different VMM, and Cloud Hypervisor users are expected to install it explicitly. -- Gauthier Jolly , Thu, 30 Jul 2026 11:00:00 +0200
