libGeoIP support ---------------- Upstream removed support for libGeoIP, whose databases are no longer published; geographic information requires libmaxminddb. While GeoLite2 databases were previously provided by MaxMind freely on the web, without any account or registration, starting December 30, 2019, an account with MaxMind is required, alongside the acceptance of an end-user license agreement. However, both the account itself, and the GeoLite2 databases remain available free of charge. The reasoning behind this change can be found at: https://blog.maxmind.com/2019/12/18/significant-changes-to-accessing-and-using-geolite2-databases/ To receive free GeoLite2 databases, one needs to sign up for a MaxMind account: https://www.maxmind.com/en/geolite2/signup It is also suggested that the geoipupdate package be installed, which can be used to automatically download the databases. /etc/GeoIP.conf can be then configured with the appropriate AccountID and LicenseKey. The databases will be downloaded to /var/lib/GeoIP and the Geo support for ipcalc-ng should work. -- Fabio Augusto De Muzio Tobich Sat, 17 Oct 2026 12:07:45 -0300 ipcalc-ng for Debian -------------------- The upstream project started as a fork of the ipcalc tool in the Fedora distribution, but it has, since then, replaced the original tool. In Debian we still have the original ipcalc, so this software was renamed, in Debian only, to ipcalc-ng. -- Fabio Augusto De Muzio Tobich Thu, 18 Jun 2020 14:24:50 -0300
