openqa (5.1754383059.0426baa1d-2) unstable; urgency=medium The `openqa` server (webUI) package has moved to debian-fasttrack ----------------------------------------------------------------- In future, if you want to install the server package (which is called 'openqa' and contains the webUI & database components), you will need to enable debian-fasttrack, as described here: https://fasttrack.debian.net/ That's because the webUI of openqa is fairly fast-moving, and tends to grow dependencies on new bits of perl and node-js, so is not really maintainable for the lifetime of Debian `stable` (let alone (E)LTS). The upstream project treats every commit that makes it into their main branch as a release, because they only allow merges after they have been extensively tested. Even if we had the resources available to backport security fixes etc. to our stable branch, they would never get that level of testing and scrutiny, so it would be a disservice to our users to ship such franken-versions. We will continue to ship the CLI and worker packages in the main Debian repositories, since the webUI is intended to be backwards compatible, which allows older versions of the worker/client to continue to work. At some point I may move the current contents of the `openqa` package to `openqa-server`, and then have a mostly empty `openqa` package that recommends/suggests the server package. I'm happy to receive feedback about whether this approach makes sense. -- Philip Hands Fri, 17 Oct 2025 14:16:19 +0200
